spans traditional cider, mead, small batch liqueurs,
and – since 2014 – the first harvest of one sparkling
and five still English wines. Much has been written
about the superiority of our South West climate and soil
for sparkling wine, something which the awards seem

throw from the winery. Over the last 10 years, England
has won more international medals than any other
country (including France, home of the Champagne
region) for their sparkling wine. And our Elderflower &

What’s your story?
What makes you better than the
established brands?
In 1992, Lyme Bay Cider was founded by Nigel
Howard after a career in the city, with the aim to make

slowly meandering its way towards the ultimate goal of
making English wines, with the first of them released
last year.
What local ingredients do you use?

Everything we do is inspired by traditional recipes,
but we like to push the boundaries so we use the most
up-to-date production techniques and employ some

brewing experts.
What’s the best way to enjoy it?
Try the English/Devonshire Hugo, a twist on the
traditional blend of Prosecco and elderflower: large
wine glass, muddled mint, ice, 50ml Elderflower &
