In My Dining Hell, he shares with the audience the worst reviews of his own work and discusses why people ‘adore’ to read a bad review. He said that readers ‘feast upon them like starving vultures who have spotted fly-blown carrion out in the bush.’ During the entertaining hour with the Observer critic recently voted best food and drink journalist in Britain, he invites the audience to give his performance a real-time review on Twitter. Jay Rayner has been writing for the Observer for 12 years and is a regular judge on MasterChef, and chairs the BBC Radio 4’s Kitchen Cabinet. RESTAURANTS, workplaces and caterers based in Bournemouth and Poole are queuing up to sign the Sustainable Fish Cities pledge. By signing the pledge, food outlets in the two towns are committing to promoting sustainable fish and reflecting this in their buying methods. The café at Guys Marsh, which opened in February, is the second jail to open by Expia CIC, and both are open five days a week. Unusually all the food served is prepared by prisoners, under supervision from the catering team. The Jailhouse Cafés serve coffee, tea and chocolate, delicious cakes and biscuits, and a range of light lunches including soup, specials, sandwiches, baguettes, paninis, chips, jacket potatoes and puddings. The Jailhouse Verne Café is built in an old officer’s mess building within the citadel, with dramatic views of the old moat and cliffs.
