rayner's dining hell
CELEBRATED restaurant critic Jay Rayner recounts the most excruciating nights out he’s
ever had in an appearance at Bridport Arts Centre this month.
In My Dining Hell, he shares with the audience the worst reviews of his own work and
discusses why people ‘adore’ to read a bad review. He said that readers ‘feast upon them like
starving vultures who have spotted fly-blown carrion out in the bush.’
During the entertaining hour with the Observer critic recently voted best food and
drink journalist in Britain, he invites the audience to give his performance a real-time review on Twitter. Jay Rayner has been writing for the Observer for 12 years and is a regular
judge on MasterChef, and chairs the BBC Radio 4’s Kitchen Cabinet.
Ticket are £14 and the performance starts at 7.30 on Friday 27 March. For tickets visit

Fish for life!
RESTAURANTS, workplaces
and caterers based in Bournemouth
and Poole are queuing up to sign the
Sustainable Fish Cities pledge.
By signing the pledge, food outlets in the two towns are committing
to promoting sustainable fish and
reflecting this in their buying
methods. Sarah Watson, manager
of the Sustainable Food City
Partnership for Bournemouth and
Poole, said: “We not only have some
of the best places to eat out in the
country but we also have an
important fishing industry around
Poole Quay, which is a significant
part of our local culture.”

jailhouse rocks with their latest café near Gold Hill
THERE are now two Jailhouse cafés open to the public, with HMP Guys Marsh adding to HMP The Verne.
The café at Guys Marsh, which opened in February, is the second jail to open by Expia CIC, and both are open five days a week. Unusually
all the food served is prepared by prisoners, under supervision from the catering team.
The Jailhouse Cafés serve coffee, tea and chocolate, delicious cakes and biscuits, and a range of light lunches including soup, specials,
sandwiches, baguettes, paninis, chips, jacket potatoes and puddings.
The Jailhouse Verne Café is built in an old officer’s mess building within the citadel, with dramatic views of the old moat and cliffs.
