After the presentation by GreenRope, an olive oil specialist who operates in
the high-quality Apulian olive oil sector made a presentation about the entire
process of making a good olive oil. She explained how we could recognize a
high-quality label on the selves of a supermarket, the different categories of
oils that exists and which one we should choose. The demonstrated the whole
manufacturing process starting from the cultivation of olive oil to the different
mechanical phases to produce the oil. At the end of the presentation the
participants could take part in an oil tasting activity with the help of another
specialist. The learned how to recognize the flavours and how to know if an
olive oil actually is of high-quality. The specialists also shared with the
participants a series of health facts about olive oil, how olive oil can prevent
heart disease. Afterwards, the participants were given a sample of pure
Apulian organic extra virgin olive oil to bring home with them. The topics of
olive oil making is also closely related to the theme of this youth exchange,
since the protection of the environment and natural and organic methods of
cultivation are essential to protect olive trees and to produce a good olive oil.
Afterwards, the participants gathered at the language school Passaporto Italia
where they tried the typical Foccacia from Bari.
