MARIAN HOCKEY
FALLING AT THE HANDS OF THE MIAC: The MIAC/NCHA Showcase did no favors to the
Sabres, as they dropped both games on the weekend. On Friday night, St. Olaf used two
third period goals to drop Marian 4-3. The Sabres fought to earn a 2-1 first period lead,
thanks to goals from seniors Tanner Burton and Robbie Bailey. Unfortunately for Marian,
the Oles would rattle off three unanswered to take the 4-2 lead early in the third. A goal
from senior Matt Williams would cut the lead to one, but that would be as close as they
could get.
On Saturday against Gustavus Adolphus, Marian again found themselves in a prominent
position, thanks largely in part to Williams’ two second period goals. The boys would be
unable to hold onto the lead, falling to 3-2.
PLENTY OF FIGHT IN THE BULLDOGS: Marian welcomes Adrian College to the Blue Line
this weekend, returning to NCHA play. The Bulldogs come in with a perfect 9-0 record and
ranked third in this week’s USCHO.com poll. Josh Ranalli (11G-5A) and Josh Cousineau
(0G-11A) lead the high scoring offense, which is averaging five goals per game. James
Hamby is 7-0-0 in net, posting a 0.88 GAA, and recording two shutouts.
MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT: Saturday’s game will honor service men and women
in attendance. The Sabres will also be wearing special camoflauge jerseys which will be
auctioned off at the conclusion of the game.
