MARIAN HOCKEY STORYLINES WEEKEND SPLIT: Marian took a hiatus from NCHA play last weekend to take on two teams from the WIAC. On Friday, the Sabres cruised to a 7-3 win over UW-Superior, for their fourth victory in a row. Freshman Mike Baldwin earned the ‘W’ while stopping 40 of the 43 shots he saw. Brodie Jamieson scored his first two goals of the year while senior Tyler Klein provided a spectacular performance in front of his former team, scoring three goals and adding an assist. On Saturday, the Sabres traveled to Stevens Point to face the fifth-ranked Pointers. Despite being outshot on the night 49-16, senior Josh Baker kept Stevens Point off the scoreboard until the third period. Marian was unable to crack Pointer goaltender Brandon Jaeger, as they fell 2-0. SHOWCASE FOR FORMER TEAM: After completing his junior hockey career, Tyler Klein committed to UW-Superior to play collegiate hockey. As a member of the Yellowjackets, Klein played in 49 games and totaled eight goals and 13 assists. Following his sophomore season, the Fargo native transferred to Marian for his final two years. Friday night was the first time that Klein returned to Superior and he made sure to put on a show. After being held off the scoresheet for the first 40 minutes, Klein notched a third period hat-trick in a span of 7:21 to put the game well in the hands of the Sabres. His accomplishments earned him NCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors. MIAC/NCHA SHOWCASE: The Sabres will compete this weekend in the MIAC/NCHA Showcase in Appleton, Wis. On Friday, Marian faces off against St. Olaf at 4 p.m. The Oles are led by senior Dan Cecka who has five goals and two assists on the year. In the second game of the weekend series, the Gusties of Gustavus Adolphus College will meet toe-totoe with the Sabres. Corey Leivermann leads his squad with five goals and six assists. John McLean has posted a 2.38 GAA through his first seven starts and accumulated a 5-2-0 record. MUSabreAthletics @MUSabres MUSabres SabreAthletics
