STORYLINES
CLEANING HOUSE: Coming off their win over Lawrence, the Sabres kept the pedal to
the metal last weekend, completing the weekend sweep of MSOE. The Raiders entered
the weekend winless and were in search of their first conference points. On Friday, Marian
cruised to a 4-0 win on the coattails of two goals from sophomore Ben Morgan. The next
day would be a closer battle, but the Sabres came out on top, winning 2-0.
COLLECTING THE HARDWARE: Senior Josh Baker posted back-to-back shutouts on the
weekend en route to being selected as the NCHA Defensive Player of the Week. Baker
made 15 saves on Friday and 21 saves on Saturday to post his first two shutouts of the
seasons.
TAKING ON UW-SUPERIOR: Marian hits the road this weekend, playing in Superior,
Wis. on friday against the Yellow Jackets. On Tuesday, UW-Superior defeated NCHA club
Northland 8-2. They are led on the statsheet by Cody Hotchkin leads the team with two
goals and four assists through five games. The goaltending duties have been split between
Drew Standburg, who’s started three games, and Dayn Belfour, who’s started two.
CLIPPING THE POINTERS: Saturday night, Marian will take on the fifth ranked Pointers
of UW-Stevens Point. They’re averaging seven goals per game through the early part of
the season and will be coming off a Friday night contest at MSOE. Ten of their 42 goals
have come on the man-advantage, which they are operating at an impressive 31 percent.
Garrett Ladd leads the team with seven goals and six assists. In goal, Brandon Jager is a
perfect 5-0-0 and owns a 2.00 GAA and a .900 save percentage.
