IT’S HOCKEY SEASON!
LEADOFF HITTERS: The Sabres will be the first Division III hockey game of the season this
weekend. The NCAA instituted an official start date of November 1 for all contests. However, due
to the contract agreed upon between Marian and UW-Stout, they were grandfathered in for 2013.
Saturday marks the beginning of the 19th season of men’s hockey at Marian. AJ Aitken returns to
his spot behind the bench to lead the Sabres in his second season as head coach. Taylor Langford
will be his top assistant and will oversee the Junior Varsity program that will make its debut this
season.
OFFENSIVE OUTPUT: Despite the departure of the Class of 2013, the Sabres will return 69 percent
of their total offensive output this season. All-Conference selection Tyler Klein returns for his senior
year after putting up 15 goals and 8 assists only a year ago. Junior Aaron Leonard tied for the team
lead in assists last season with 12. Brian Berger will be looking for another high octane season of
offense after totaling 8 goals and 11 assists last season. All this on top of the incoming freshman
and transfer student-athletes has Marian looking prominent for another strong season.
