Northwest Nazarene: Alex Birketoft had 33 points and Erik Kinney had 32 as the Crusaders split two games, shooting 52.4 percent (54-of-103). Kinney also had team highs for rebounds (16) and assists (matching Mike Wright’s six). Birketoft and Matyas Hering each had three steals. Riley Carel and Trey Ingram each had 26 points in the two road contests. The Saints kept the two games close make 21of-38 treys. Ingram converted on 6-of-12 and Carel made 4-of-6, Feb. 2-8 Players of the Week – Week By Week Nov. 10-16 – Jeffrey Parker, Western Washington (F, 6-6, So., Richmond, CA – Salesian) and Joseph Stroud, Central Washington (F, 6-8, Jr., Las Vegas, NV – Sierra Visa/Pierce College) ... Parker scored 43 points and also had 18 rebounds leading the Vikings to two wins in the 13th Chuck Randall Classic. Parker made seven of 17 3-pointers and shot 51.7 percent overall, cashing in on 15-of-29. He was named the tournament’s MVP ... Stroud earned alltournament honors leading the Wildcats to two wins in the Seattle Pacific Sodexo Tip-Off tournament. He came off the bench to score 24 points, making nine of 10 shots. He also led CWU in rebounds (11) and blocked shots (7). His last basket with one second half came on a dunk to break a 68-68 tie in Saturday’s 70-68 win over Academy of Art. Seattle Pacific: The Falcons lost back-to-back home games to Western Washington and Simon Fraser, extending their losing streak to three, its first streak of that length since 2011. Free throw shooting hurt SPU, which was just 31-of60 from the line, including 4-of-17 by Cory Hutsen, who had a team-best 42 points … Riley Stockton had 20 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists. He now ranks 10th in the GNAC in both career rebounds (689) and assists (412). Simon Fraser: Sango Niang had 53 points, including 28 in an 84-83 win at Seattle Pacific, its first-ever win against the Falcons in 14 games. Niang made 18 of 33 shots, including 7-of-16 treys. A three-pointer by Niang with 1:44 left gave SFU a 84-79 lead and the Clan then held on. Nov. 17-23: Ruben Silvas, Alaska (G, 6-3, 175, Jr., Tucson, AZ) had 33 points, shooting 62.5 percent (15-of-24) as the Nanooks made their 2014-15 season debut in the GCI Alaska Invitational. The JC transfer from Arizona also had 16 rebounds, two assists and a steal and wasn’t charged with a turnover in earning all-tournament honors as the Nanooks won one of three contests. Western Oregon: Andy Avgi scored 42 points as the Wolves earned a road sweep and opened up a 2 ½ game lead in the GNAC. Avgi had 27 points against CWU as the Wolves overcame a 10-point deficit just prior to the end of the first half to beat the Wildcats for just the fourth time in 29 all-time games at Nicholson Pavilion. Devon Alexander had 34 points and Julian Nichols had 22 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds. Nov. 24-30: Julian Nichols, Western Oregon (G, 6-2, 175, Jr. Upland, CA) scored 51 points and also 10 rebounds, a team-high 14 assists and six steals in leading the Wolves to three road West Region victories, including a 67-52 win at 2014 playoff qualifier Dixie State. Nichols made 15 of 31 field goal attempts and also converted on 19 of 20 foul shots. Twenty-six of his points came in Saturday’s 83-73 win at the Academy of Art. Western Washington: After starting the season 0-6 on its oponents home courts, the Vikings got a sweep defeating Seattle Pacific and MSU Billings. WWU used a 12-0 run in the first half to take control in a 82-72 win at Brougham Pavilion Thursday. WWU then won Saturday at Billings 7565. Mac Johnson led the Vikings’ balanced attack with 27 points. Ricardo Maxwell and Kyle Impero each had 26 points, Anye Turner had 23 and Jeffrey Parker had 22. Dec. 1-7: Dom Williams, Central Washington (G, 5-11, Sr., Tacoma, WA – Curtis & Tacoma CC) scored 50 points and also had 10 assists and just one turnover in wins over Montana State Billings and defending GNAC champion Seattle Pacific. He had a career-high 31 points and five assists in an 88-79 win over MSUB Thursday, connecting on 11 of 20 shots, including 5-of-7 three-pointers. Williams then added 19 points and five assists in a 73-67 victory against SPU Saturday, converting on 4-of-7 three-point shots. The win snapped a four-game CWU losing streak to the Falcons.
