GAME 12: BENEDICTINE
SERIES HISTORY
The Sabres and Eagles will meet for the 11th time in their program histories this Saturday.
Benedictine leads the all-time series, 7-3, after winning a close 65-62 battle in Lisle last
February. The past four meetings between both teams have been decided by four points or
less and the winner has protected their home floor. The last time the Eagles won in Fond du
Lac was all the way back in the 2006-07 season.
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION
In the 106-101 loss to Aurora back on Dec. 20, it marked the first time Marian had eclipsed
the century mark since a 106-86 thumping of Cardinal Stritch back on Feb. 22, 1990. It also
marked the first time the Sabres had allowed 100 or more points since Nov. 30, 2000 in a
102-73 loss to Barat College (Ill.). Marian’s 12 three-pointers made matched the most since
Nov. 19, 2011 against Martin Luther, while its 56.7 percent field goal output was the secondhighest in the last eight years to a 57.9 percent performance against Edgewood back on
Jan. 25, 2012.
MAGIC NUMBERS
When the Sabres score 70 or more points in a game this season they are 6-2. Since the
beginning of the 2012-13 season, Marian is 17-4 in games it has scored 70 points or more.
Since last season, the Sabres are 16-2 when tied or leading at halftime, including 5-0 this
season.
ON THE HORIZON
The Sabres will have a quiet week to prepare for their second meeting of the season
against Rockford. The Regents will make the trip to Fond du Lac Saturday, Jan. 11, for a 2
p.m. tip-off. A further look ahead sees a three-game week for Marian, Jan. 14-18.
TWO SABRES ECLIPSE 1,000-POINT PLATEAU
Senior forward Cody Veleke and senior guard Jeff Harris reached a milestone only
14 Sabres had before them. Veleke, who dons the #15 became the 15th member of the
1,000-point club when he led the Sabres with 24 points and 11 rebounds in an 84-82 overtime
victory at Wisconsin Lutheran on Dec. 5. It was his seventh career double-double.
Harris eclipsed the milestone just before halftime of a 76-61 victory over Concordia
Chicago at home Saturday, Dec. 14. Fellow senior Sam Koslowski is just 145 points away
from becoming the third Sabre this year to reach the mark. He needs to average just 10.4
5 points per game in the final 14 regular season games. If he does, Marian will have done
what only three known teams have accomplished since the 1996-97 season by having three
or more players reach the coveted milestone in the same year.
