National Ave. • Fond du Lac, WI • 54935 @MarianUHoops BASKETBALL NOTES GAME 14-16: CUW/LAKELAND/BENEDICTINE LAST TIME OUT The Sabres made quick work of Rockford last time out, placing six players in double figures, while forcing the Regents into 22 turnovers that resulted in 29 points en route to an 83-70 win to move to 9-4 overall, 8-1 in the NACC and 7-0 at home this season. Cody Veleke led the way with 15 points, whlie Sam Koslowski and Drew Binversie added 10 and 12 points, respectivley. The Marian bench outscored Rockford, 37-15, led by Josh Creed’s 13-point, six-rebound and four-steal effort. Jeff Harris added 12 points, while Brad Koth chipped in 11. The Sabres led by as many as 23 points following an 11-point halftime advantage. The win gave Marian three straight wins over Rockford and marked a regular season sweep after a 79-73 victory in Rockford back on Dec. 7. SCOUTING THE FALCONS After a slow start out of the gate, Concordia University Wisconsin has won five of its last six games, including three-of-four conference match-ups and enter the week 7-6 overall, 5-4 in the NACC. The Falcons defeated Benedictine at home last Saturday, 90-76. The Falcons recorded 11 steals in the game and lead the league with 9.7 steals per game this season. CUW also ranks first in three-point percentage (37.4). Sophomore forward Keith Kahlfeldt leads the team with 18.9 points per game on 52.7 percent shooting. Bradley Prinsen averages 15.8 ppg followed by Eric Kittel at 10.5 ppg to go along with team-bests in assists (3.5) and steals (2.2) per contest. Brett Boettcher hauls in a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game. SERIES HISTORY The Sabres and Falcons will meet for the 58th time in the all-time series with CUW leading, 32-25. CUW has had Marian’s number in recent years, winning the last 12 meetings, including both match-ups a season ago by seven points or less. Dating back to the 2008-09 season, nine of CUW’s 11 wins have been by eight points or less with an average margin of victory of just 5.7 points. The last Marian win came back on Dec. 8, 2007 in Fond du Lac by a score of 80-60. A LOOK AT THE MUSKIES Second to Marian, Lakeland College comes in as the hottest team in the league having won seven of its last eight contests and brings into the week an 11-3 overall mark, including a 7-2 NACC ledger. Last time out, the Muskies outscored Dominican 42-28 in the paint en route to a 75-66 victory at home Saturday. Lakeland leads the league in points per game (86.2) and three-pointers made per game (7.5), while ranking second in assists (15.8) and steals (9.2) per contest. Senior forward Justin Ward ranks second in the league in points (21.4) and rebounds (10.5) per game and turned in a 22-point, 13-rebound effort in the win over Dominican last Saturday. James Oshkeshequoam is second on the team with 18.1 ppg, while Joey Burris is third at 14.5 ppg and a team-best 4.1 assists per game. Stan McKenzie sits right at 10 ppg. SERIES HISTORY Marian and Lakeland will meet for the 61st time in the all-time series with the Muskies holding a slim 31-29 edge in the series. The Muskies have won eight straight meetings dating back to the 2009-10 season, including three wins last season when top-seeded Lakeland ended Marian’s season in the first round of the conference tournament. The last victory for the Sabres came back on Jan. 13, 2010 in a 76-69 win at home.
