MENA NWC Update
Collaborative Proposal Design Meetings
Over the past several
months, FABRI staff have
met with PR&D research
teams to support
collaborative proposal
development. FABRI Chief
of Party Peter Reiss met
with research teams in
Morocco and Tunisia in
November 2012. In
Morocco, a research team
led by ONEE-IEA with IAV,
and RSS worked on a
proposal addressing
decentralized sanitation. In
Tunisia, a team of INRGREF,
IAV, and NCARE worked on
a proposal on basin
management. FABRI PR&D
Grants Manager Ken Ludwa
met with research teams in
Oman, Dubai and Qatar in
February 2013. In Oman,
two research team led by
Sultan Qaboos University
(SQU) discussed two
proposals. The first
proposal considers managed
aquifer recharge using
treated wastewater and the
second proposal seeks to
maximize the use of treated
wastewater in irrigation. A
research team led by ICBA
met in Dubai to further
develop a proposal
considering the application
of real time soil monitoring
for irrigated agricultural
systems in the Middle East
and North Africa (MENA).
Finally, a team led by QEERI
meet in Qatar to consider
strategic planning for natural
resources in MENA under
the Water, Energy, Food
