Page 2 MENA NWC Update MENA NWC Welcomes New Centers MENA NWC continues to welcome new institutional members to the Network. In the past six months, six Centers from six countries have been added: Cadi Ayyad University in Morocco Water and Environment Center at Sana’a University in Yemen Marine Science Center at University of Basrah in Iraq Ain Shams University in Egypt Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES) at the University of Tlemcen in Algeria MENA NWC is working closely with these institutions to integrate them into Network research activities and programs. The Network now links 23 participating technical institutions across the Middle East and North Africa with each other, U.S. counterparts, governments, and the private sector to solve critical water problems confronting the region. MENA NWC Research Funding Opportunities MENA NWC has three opportunities to fund new research. The Network’s two small grants programs—Water Innovation Fellowships (WIF) and Young Water Scientist Partnerships (YWSP)—are accepting applications until January 2, 2015. WIF provides up to $25,000 for individual research. Applicants must be citizens and residents of a Middle Eastern and North African country, and full-time employees of an institution or entity based in the Middle East and North Africa. YWSP provides up to $50,000 for two collaborating researchers. YWSP small grants are open to full- or part-time employees of the MENA NWC Centers who are between the ages of 21 and 40. (See page 5 for a list of YWSP awards.) The Policy, Research & Development (PR&D) grants program is accepting concept notes and/or Technical and Cost Proposals from its Centers. MENA NWC will work closely with applicants to obtain funding from outside sources. As before, proposals must be submitted by a research team of at least two MENA NWC Centers from at least two countries, or one international Center and one national Center. (See page 6 for a list of PR&D awards.) Application materials for each of the grants programs are available on MENA NWC’s website, www.menanwc.org.
