Warsaw orphanages," said Dr Piotr M.A. Cywiński, Director of the Museum.

"These documents constitute a significant collection, presenting, on the one hand, the tragedy of Polish Jewish families at the time, and on the other hand, efforts that were undertaken to rescue as many people as possible from the hellish clamp of the Holocaust hovering over them."

The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Switzerland, Dr Jakub Kumoch, gave a detailed explanation on the recovery of the collection. "Immediately after the publication on Ładoś and his diplomats, we managed to locate the Eiss Archive in a private family collection. It is a huge accomplishment of our honorary consul in Zurich, Markus Blechner, who has been working for nearly a year to obtain the collection from the descendants of Chaim Eiss and convinced them that its rightful place is in Poland, in institutions documenting the Holocaust and pre-war Jewish life," said Kumoch. The purchase of the collection was possible thanks to the support of the Deputy Prime Minister, Piotr Gliński, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
