A Polish Catholic nun who was honored by Israel for helping to hide Jewish would-be resistance fighters in her convent during World War II has died aged 110. Among those who hid in the small convent of nine Dominican nuns during the war was poet and activist Abba Kovner.
Some drowned or hanged themselves, others jumped out of windows or took poison – but even today, it is not clear how many Jews committed suicide in the wake of Kristallnacht, exactly 80 years ago.
