Even in darkness we ourselves may shine. or so say the Gnostics. This element also comes true when we consider that Mount Sinai was also known as Horeb, meaning place of desolation. It was a place of duality and a place to find balance.
There may also be tangential evidence found in the biblical tale of Moses, who rescued a Hebrew slave by killing an Egyptian and then escaped to Midian territory.
This tale parallels a story from Egypt, in which a court official escaped to live in Syria-Palestine. The court official was known as Sinuhe.
