I arrived back in London and went straight to my boss’ office first thing in the morning. I was extremely outraged by the fact that I was asked to travel around the world with human brains in my suitcase without being informed. I went in and told my boss that it was not reasonable at all under no circumstances to send me halfway across the globe with a brain in my suitcase. He told me that I shouldn’t worry and that I should be happy to be part of this groundbreaking project. I then asked what could be so groundbreaking about carrying human brains from one country to another. He told me that once the time will come I will have more information about the issue. I demanded that he explain more as I wasn’t pleased to continue with this line of work without knowing what was it for. My boss reassured me that I had nothing to worry about and I won’t get into any trouble. He gave me a short explanation about what our company does, but he didn’t specify more than that. It turns out that our company is a leading company in the field of brain research or more appropriately, neurological research. I had no clue that this was what my company was doing when I applied for this job. All the job ad said when I submitted my job application was: “An accountant for a world leading company wanted”. No information was given to me about this during the interview either. They only wanted someone to fill in annual reports and analyze them. My boss did mention though, that our company is not experimenting on random brains. He said that the purpose of our company’s neurological research is related to memory and the differences between certain brains and their ability to remember. I couldn’t really understand why our company needed the brains without the person and whose brain was I delivering to our client in Amsterdam. Do you have any idea why would my company use brains for their experiments?
