How’s it going?
As I mentioned before, I started a new job a few weeks ago and the train journey every day to work is ‘a pain in the ass.’ Finally it’s the weekend and I can relax a bit and get to know the city a bit better. I spoke the other day with one of my colleagues and he told me he was going out to a party in Brixton. He told me that he likes dancing and he goes out every weekend to a party in London, each time to a different part of the city. This way he can explore the different neighbourhoods in London. He is originally from South Africa and told me that he moved to London two years ago. Ever since, he has been working for our company and makes frequent journeys to South America and Asia. I don’t exactly know what he actually does in our company and he hasn’t really shared any information about it except for the fact that he deals with import. As my boss asked me to go to Colombia next week I asked him if he had any idea about what is the purpose of my flight over there. He explained to me that we had big-money clients there and a big part of the commodity our company imports come from there. For some unknown reason, when I ask him what is it that we import he changed the topic quite quickly. I wonder why is that? What is the big secret about our business? Anyhow, we continued on to the party and had a great time. We were totally drunk at the end of the evening. Being a bit drunk, ‘I took the liberty to’ ask my colleague about our import business as I was part of the accounting department and had no idea about what was going on in other departments. He told me just briefly that what we import is a lucrative commodity and generates a lot of money for the company. He also told me that our boss wants me to go to Colombia because he trusted me to become a part of the import business. After this short conversation we each went home and now I am even more confused than before.
What do you think he wants me to do there? Who am I supposed to meet there and what is this lucrative commodity he was talking about? Any suggestions what it can might be?
