1. Pre-poo

Pre-poo is a treatment that you apply onto your hair before washing it or shampooing. It helps to ensure that you restore the moisture that your hair has lost due to the changes in temperature. While it’s cold outside, it might be warm indoors. Walking in and out a sudden climate changes can be hurtful to your hair. Taking some coconut oil to detangle your hair before a wash is a form of pre-poo. Letting your hair sit with the coconut oil is an effective way to replenish the moisture your hair has lost.

2. Deep Condition

Again with the moisture! Keeping your curls hydrated, especially in the cooler months is imperative! Dry curls can lead to breakage. Keep your curls moisturized with frequent deep conditioners. Once a week is enough to avoid dehydrated curls.

3. Get rid of brushes and combs

Using your fingers to detangle and style your hair is the best way to find knots. Instead of breaking through the knots with combs and brushes, you can gently undo or pull apart the tangles with your fingertips to avoid breakage.

4. Avoid Wash and Gos

Stick to updos and protective styles as much as possible. Going out with wet hair in the cold can be bad for your health! We don’t need you catching a cold! If you insist on rocking your curls out, consider styling the night before and sleeping with your hair protected in a pineapple. Sleeping on a satin pillowcase is also a great way to eliminate frizzies the next morning!

5. LOC Method

If you notice the products in your curly hair routine don’t seem to be working, it might be because of the order in which you are applying them. Try out this technique for moisturizing hair in the winter months. First use a water based leave in conditioner, seal the moisture with an oil of your choice and then finish off with applying a styling cream to seal the cuticle and prevent moisture loss!
