Nydia Norville was born
to St. Lucian parents.
Raised in St. Lucia and
Willingboro, NJ, after
graduating from Seton Hall
University with a B.S. in Business
Administration, she moved to
New York City. It was during
her years in New York that the
creation of her moisturizers
began.
Dry, irritated skin was a constant
source of discomfort to her,
especially during the harsh New
York winters. She recalls her
grandmother in St. Lucia “living
off of the land” and making
her own coconut oil which
she would sometimes put on
her skin. Inspired by those
childhood St. Lucian memories,
she decided that she too could
create a moisturizer to treat
her skin. At that moment, she
unknowingly embarked on
a new discovery that would
launch her entrepreneurial
career.
Her creation was not only
effective in soothing her dry
skin, but she soon had a high
demand for the all-natural
moisturizers from family
and friends she had given
samples to. That initial interest
in developing a moisturizer
quickly developed into a
passion for creating skincare
products. She also realized
that there were demands
for truly all-natural products
that were not being fulfilled.
In 2005, Nydia launched her
first skin care line - which she
ran successfully. The public’s
interest in and the success
of her first company was her
catalyst to rebrand and launch
Choiselle in 2014.
Choiselle is named after the
southern town of Choiseul in St.
Lucia.
“We have a plethora of
medicinal plants in St. Lucia and
throughout the Caribbean that
our parents and grand-parents
prescribed and used to treat
many ailments for years. These
remedies are not only useful
as holistic medicine, but it can
be very useful and effective for
skincare and wellness products.
Unfortunately, in the Caribbean
we do not value our natural
organic resources as much as
our parents and grandparents
did, but in North America and
Europe, the benefits and uses
of these natural and organic
health and skincare resources
are of great value. While the
Caribbean is regarded by many
as merely a vacation spot filled
with sun, sea and sand, my
perception of the Caribbean
is tropical islands filled with
nature’s natural remedies for
health and wellness, with spas
that use our natural organic
plant ingredients in skincare.”
Nydia presently resides in St.
Lucia, where she manages her
company while pursuing an
Advanced Diploma in Cosmetic
Science from the accredited
Formula Botanica. Her goal
is to make her St. Lucian
brand, Choiselle, the most
internationally sought-after
beauty and wellness all-natural
skincare product. She plans to
introduce a range of facial, hair
and aromatherapy products
to her current skincare line.
Workshops aimed at teaching
individuals how to create their
own natural products at home
are also planned.
