Growing up as a young lady was tough, but
I always had positive aspirations. I wanted
to contribute to making a difference to my
community and in people’s lives, even if it was
just one person. My quest has always been
to help others define their sense of direction;
make sense of daily pressures and the “why’s”
and “how’s” that comes with the territory.
Consequentially, it has also helped me to grow
even more in the process.
Here is one example of my many strategies that
has helped me in my personal development that
I’d like to share with you.
FIT FOR LIFE
We all want to be fit and in shape or maintain a
healthy lifestyle for more reasons than one. But
what does it really mean to maintain a healthy
lifestyle? Majority would say exercise and eating
healthily and though this may be true it is only a
fraction of the process. Yes, I am afraid it is!
Being healthy is essential, however, you can
weed a garden of its wild plants that crops up
between your prized plants or harvest, but it will
keep coming back until you fertilise or treat the
soil to eradicate the reoccurring problem.
Now it is no different from looking after our
health (mind, body & soul). We want to have
good health and look good at all times. Well even
though that maybe reasonably possible within
the laws of gravity and in this flawed world we
live, we are, however, required to work at the
root of the problem to ensure longevity of such a
healthy lifestyle. In reference to the illustration of
the garden, the root of the problem was treating
the soil and in this scenario of maintaining good
health, the root of the problem is treating our
thought process to get the desired results for
mind, body and spirit. Are you still with me?
Based on the process of the way we think, it
determines our actions and consequences. So,
complaints such as “aarrgh this is too much
work”; “I want to look like her”; “I’m too fat”;
“My New Year’s resolution will be to join the
gym” and so goes on and on the complaints,
excuses and promises.
As soon as we get into the habit of aligning our
thinking into a pattern of positive thoughts, we
are on our way to having victory over anything
we are faced with or endeavour to do.
You see, our behavioural process is only
the result of something we were taught or
have gained through some form of nurtured
knowledge. Therefore, the actualisation of a
conceived thought goes through a series of
processes before it is perceived into an action.
It is our line of thinking that determines our
behaviour and not to mention the consequences
of those actions – which depends on whether it’s
applied with faith or in fear.
The course of our every conceived thought is
played out through a systematic process which
either ends in our good measure of faith, or fear,
and both has an expected end. This profound
manipulation of our every thought, behaviour
and or reaction still lies with us.
Our Eyes Awake Series explore ways to be fit for
life, not just in Body but also in Mind and Spirit.
