Conception in Crisis
Anxiety. Uncertainty.
Despair. Depression.
Why is this
happening? How am
I going to get through this? Am
I going to get through this? ….
such a dark place… so many
unanswered questions…so
much hopelessness. This was the
very real and desperate cry of
many just months ago when
the world was thrown head
first into the mire of Covid-19.
Life as we knew it screeched
to a halt; we were cast down
into an abyss of uncertainty
so unprecedented that some
wondered if they would survive
the fall.
In the midst of this emotional
storm, some people were also
struggling through another
kind of difficulty. Here, too,
they faced frustration, doubt,
and sometimes depression,
wondering if the sun would
ever come out again. Like the
coronavirus, this enemy was
far-reaching and indiscriminate
in its attacks, but the thing
about this enemy, this “virus”, is
that it’s been around for ages.
It is the devastating “virus” of
infertility, and it has waged war
on many a couple’s prospects
for parenthood.
In this as in every war, there is
a champion, indeed a saviour,
and for infertile couples in
Barbados, this is the Barbados
