The Corpse Flower (Rafflesia arnoldii)
Rafflesia arnoldii is the larget individual flower on earth. It can be found in the rain forests of Borneo and Sumatra. It can reach a diameter of 3 feet and weighs up to 24 pounds. It earned the nickname "corpse flower" because it smells like rotting flesh. The functional purpose of the stench is to attrack flies, beetles and other insects for pollination. It is on of the national flowers of Indunesia ad was declared as a rare flower in 1993.
This flower lives for just a few days.
