MEECO DESIGNATION REPORT 2017: MD ANDERSON III Issue May 18, 2017 | Page 9
MD Anderson has an opportunity to unveil best practices for other Category IV organizations wishing
to understand the value of coaching cultures; documentaries, videos, executive education classes, etc.
Most of the metrics, however, discussed internal issues, such as retention and others. I’d like to hear
more about patient impact and how this type of culture has improved patents’ lives and help to put a
dent in eradicating cancer. To highlight this point, the word “patient/s” was used only three times in
their 91-page application. Show some patient success stories and how the coaching culture created
this success, much like positive patient outcomes from inter-professional teamwork – reduced hospital
stays, etc.—or communication protocols, such as closed-loop communication and others that map
directly to reduction in medical errors, such as misdiagnosing, etc.
To continue to do what they're doing in the ways of processes and practices already in use, while
focusing not on the excellence already achieved but on the potential for continuous improvement that
will ensure ongoing sustainability.
