Pensacola home of 24 years and purchased a six-acre farm in Chumuckla, Florida, between the towns of Pace and Jay; a 30-minute drive to Health & Hope.
“ We’ re going to make that whole conversion over to farm,” he said.“ She wants miniature donkeys. We’ re going to have chickens. We’ re going to have a garden. I’ m going to spend some time doing that sort of thing because I never have. And I think that’ ll be kind of cool. In a year I might turn out to hate it. I don’ t know, but we’ re going to try that and then I’ m going to do more work with the underserved people that I’ ve been taking care of.”
loves the College of Medicine, for sure,” Littles said.“ And his campus, over time— when we look at our mission of rural health and primary care— has had more students pursue that across the years.”
Littles will be charged with identifying McLeod’ s successor.
“ You don’ t really replace him,” Littles said, noting McLeod’ s deep ties to the community and connections with the college’ s medical partners in the community, including the University of West Florida and its pathway programs.
It won’ t be easy finding McLeod’ s successor, despite a spate of potential candidates, including those with direct connections to McLeod and the Pensacola campus and community.
“ The effect of the College of Medicine here in Pensacola is palpable,” Leahy said.“ There’ s not an office in town that you can’ t frequently find one of our students following or shadowing a preceptor.
“ When we look at the numbers of students coming back as physicians in Pensacola, that’ s what should speak with the most resounding volume. And the patients that have those FSU graduates are continually recognizing the high quality of care they get.”
That’ s quite a legacy for the mission-driven country doctor.
