MENTATION, or managing dementia, depression, and delirium, or in aging adults is crucial for overall wellbeing of older adults and those who care for them.
MOBILITY ensures that older adults have the resources and educational training to move safely throughout the community using any mode of transportation.
REACH provides educational training and outreach to older adults, physicians— those practicing and those in-training— people who care for older adults, and first responders to promote an age-friendly future for Florida.
The federally-funded REACH program through FSU College of Medicine provides a trove of free resources for healthcare professionals and caregivers. From“ Safe Mobility” driving tools to tips on communicating with those experiencing hearing loss, the REACH portal is an essential bookmark for anyone navigating the journey of aging.
A NEW HOME FOR INNOVATION IN 2026
The new FSU Health Academic Health Center is projected to open later this year. This facility will house research spaces dedicated, in part, to REACH research.
For the Department of Geriatrics and its REACH program, the new home will facilitate a leap forward in translational research, acting as a hub that connects community outreach with scientific discovery.
Ultimately, this expansion will cultivate a more age-friendly future throughout North Florida and support the FSU Health mission to bring research, clinical practice, and outreach under one umbrella to transform health and healthcare in Florida.
BMS Excellence on Display: Sumajit, Owutey claim universitywide honors

For most researchers, major breakthroughs usually happen over years. For Sophia Owutey and Hyeje Sumajit, Biomedical Sciences students at the FSU College of Medicine, that timeframe was shortened to just 180 seconds.
Each spring, the Three Minute Thesis( 3MT™) competition at FSU gives graduate students the opportunity to explain their work and its impact to a non-specialist audience using only one static slide in three minutes. Winners are selected based on their ability to clearly and enthusiastically emphasize and explain the significance of their work, their research strategy and results, and the impact of their findings in 180 seconds.
