Celebrating success of healthcare companies from across the UK
The Medilink North of England Healthcare Business Awards
2019, brought together pioneering healthcare organisations
from across the North, and also recognised their achievements
in different categories, while praising their hard work and
creativity.
The winners were as follows:
Start-Up Award
Winner: NeedleSmart
NeedleSmart destroys contaminated medical sharp waste,
enabling a safer working environment. It has generated
commitments to buy in the UK, Dubai, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain
and China.
Innovation Award
Winner: Trio Healthcare
Trio Healthcare has created a custom-formulated silicone
adhesive to deliver instant adhesion on ostomy bags without
causing skin disorders which older products sometimes do.
Export Achievement
Winner: Paxman Coolers
Paxman Coolers’ cold cap system has helped more than 100,000
cancer patients in more than 25 countries to help retain their hair
during chemotherapy.
Partnership with the NHS: Advances in Digital Healthcare
Award
Winner: The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is scanning GS1 standard
barcodes to track patient locations and store appropriate product
data within the patient’s record.
Partnership with the NHS: Primary Care Award
Winner: Damibu Ltd
Damibu’s CATCH system reduces the number of children being
brought into A&E unnecessarily, while being cost-saving and
patient empowering.
Partnership with the NHS: Acute Care Award
Winner: Sky Medical Technology
Sky’s Geko device uses neuromuscular electro-stimulation
technology OnPulse to increase blood circulation for a number of
medical conditions.
Partnership with Academia Award
Winner: Femeda Ltd
Femeda partnered with University of Manchester in the
development of the core technology in Pelviva – to address female
bladder leakage.
Outstanding Achievement Award
Winner: Steeper Group
Steeper Group delivers world-leading technologies and products,
alongside responsive clinical services in the fields of prosthetics,
orthotics and assistive technology.
PAXMAN COOLERS, WINNERS OF THE EXPORT ACHIEVEMENT
AWARD, PRESENTED BY ADAM WHITE, BAXTER HOARE TRAVEL
Winners of the regional awards were automatically put
forward as nominees for the prestigious Medilink UK
Awards, where they competed against other finalists from
across the UK wide Medilink network
On the 15th May, at the National Conference Centre in
Solihull, the Medilink UK Healthcare Business Awards saw
leading companies from across the UK being praised for
their achievements and contributions to the life sciences
sector.
Winners were chosen from an exclusive shortlist comprised
entirely of winners from each of the regional Medilink
awards in five categories – Start-Up Award, Innovation
Award, Export Achievement, Outstanding Achievement and
Collaboration with the NHS.
The prestigious ceremony, held in association with Med-
Tech, also recognised the companies’ successes in the
Connected Health Award, Design Award, Engineering
Award, Industry 4.0 Award and Materials Innovation Award.
This year, the Export Achievement Award was handed to
the Medilink North of England member – Paxman, based in
Huddersfield. Paxman’s cold cap system has helped more
than 100,000 cancer patients in more than 25 countries to
help retain their hair during chemotherapy.
NeedleSmart brought pride to the region and was
announced as the runner in the Start-Up Award category
for its development of a market-leading technology that
heats hypodermic needles into a molten state, prior to
compressing them into a completely safe ball.
Nick Rodgers, vice-chair of Medilink UK commented: “The
Medilink UK Healthcare Business Awards have been a
raging success once again, congratulations to all of the
award winners, runners up and finalists. It’s been fantastic
to see so many people from across the industry coming
together to celebrate the outstanding achievements and
contributions to the Life Sciences sector.”
