This skill-based course is taught by leading academics with extensive experience working as counsellors and psychologists. It offers a combination of theory and professional experience, providing you with the knowledge and skills to begin a rewarding career as a counsellor. A distinctive aspect of this course is its focus on preparing students to be culturally competent counsellors. You’ ll complete 768 hours of clinical placements, comprising 300 hours of client contact and 468 hours of non-contact placement activities.

This course prepares you for work as a clinical psychologist, offering coursework that will develop your knowledge and skills in psychology and mental health. You will be equipped to work with clients, assessing, diagnosing, formulating, treating, and preventing psychological problems and mental illnesses across their lifespan.
You will gain generalised and specialised clinical skills to manage complex mental health problems, that are culturally responsive, in order to help people thrive. The course includes four placements supervised by experienced clinical psychologists, as well as a clinical research project that has the scope to positively impact the community under the guidance of experienced academics.

CAREER PATHWAYS Upon completing this course, you should be able to work as a counsellor with an advanced level of knowledge, and be cognisant of the professional issues involved in undertaking counselling as a profession in Malaysia and the region.
