Chemotherapy Devices Market – Overview
Chemotherapy is administrated intravenously through a Venous Access Device (VAD). Various types of devices are
available including cannula, catheters, and implanted ports. The choice of the device depends on the type of
therapy a patient is going to have and physical condition of patient. A central venous access device (CVAD) is
made of a non-irritant material, such as silicone, which can be left in place for several weeks or months. CVAD can
be used to administer fluids and drugs and can also be used to take blood samples. The main sites for central
venous access devices are the external and internal jugular, and sub-clavian veins. Other potential access sites
include the cephalic vein in the deltopectoral groove, axillary vein, and femoral vein.d
Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, cancer
is the second leading cause of death worldwide, and it was responsible for an estimated 9.6 million deaths in 2018.
Increasing consumption of tobacco and alcohol, and rising geriatric population base play an important role in
surging the cancer incidence rates. According to the Global Burden of Disease 2015 study, tobacco use is the most
important risk factor for cancer and is responsible for around 22% of cancer deaths worldwide.
The global chemotherapy devices market was valued at US$ 10.9 billion in 2017, and is expected to witness a
CAGR of 7.7% over the forecast period (2018 – 2026).
