TYPES OF MEDICAL PROCEDURES
USED TO TREAT ACNE
• Steroid Injections
– When prescription antibiotics offer no results, your doctor may recommend
using steroid injections. You may be a good candidate for steroid injections if
your acne leaves you with painful lumps underneath the surface of your skin.
Under normal circumstances, you have to wait weeks and even months to see
those nodules and cysts go away, but steroid injections may accelerate the
healing process. Some people notice those lumps go away in 4-5 days of taking
steroid injections. While the treatment option works for most, it may lead to
several side effects, such as thinning of the skin, skin tone become lighter than
normal, and getting small blood vessels to develop on the affected area. You
should also bear in mind that steroid injections are only a temporary fix to
stubborn nodules and cysts, and are not recommended for widespread acne.
• Chemical Peels
– Some acne types may respond well to superficial chemical peels. Traditionally
used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and minor facial scars, chemical
peels sometimes help you deal with mild acne. It works by unclogging pores
and eliminating dead skin cells, blackheads, and whiteheads.
