In the area of robotics , it ’ s important to aim for challenges that will have an impact on meeting a human need . In this regard , students get involved in research early – often early in their undergraduate career in one of our many laboratories dedicated to robotics and autonomy . Working on robots and autonomous systems requires a mix of mechanical , electrical , software , and computer systems , so students in the mechanical engineering program often work closely with their counterparts in computer science , and electrical , computer , industrial , and systems engineering as well as other engineering disciplines , to create fully-functional land , air , underwater , and humanoid robots .
