Courses in Robotics and Autonomous Systems and Related Topics
Virginia Tech and the Mechanical Engineering Department offers a comprehensive program of research and undergraduate and graduate studies in Robotics and Autonomous Systems . Our research is supported by one of the most comprehensive curricula in Robotics and Autonomous Systems to prepare students for industry , graduate studies , and doctoral degrees leading to engineering , R & D , and academic careers .
Below is a partial list of the directly related undergraduate and graduate courses in Robotics and Autonomous Systems and many support courses which are the required pre-requisites in this field . The courses include various topics directly in robotics as well as in kinematics , dynamics , vibration , control systems , signal processing , vehicle engineering , power systems for robots , machine learning , artificial intelligence , manmachine interface , and bio-inspired systems , among others .
Our capabilities and opportunities go beyond departmental boundaries . Students can , and are encouraged , to take courses outside their main discipline ( e . g . Mechanical Engineering ) to expand their knowledge and enhance their experiences . As evidenced on the lists , there are enormous opportunities to take courses across disciplines within the College of Engineering . Additional courses are also being developed under Virginia Tech ’ s Destination Areas ( areas of transformative research and education across many colleges ) to address the social and economic impacts of autonomous systems . The depth and breadth of our educational program is reflected in the comprehensive lists of topics covered .
Additionally , there are a host of supporting core and special topics courses in materials , design , sensors , vision , computing , etc . which are available to strengthen the Robotics and Autonomous Systems curriculum . They span across many departments and are taught by nationally leading experts in each area .
