THESYCO LAB
Theoretical Systems and Control Lab
ANDY KURDILA | Director
The Theoretical Systems and Control Laboratory conducts fundamental research in the theory underlying dynamical systems and control theory , with an emphasis on problems relevant to robotic systems and active structures . Most recently , the center has focused on rigorous methods for the approximation and design of biomimetic robotic systems ; empirical-analytical methods of Lagrangian mechanics ; the synthesis of approximation theory , learning theory , and Koopman theory for the representation of dynamical systems ; synthetic oscillator arrays ( SOAs ) in active structures ; adaptively tuned SOAs for vibration attenuation ; and approximation and decentralized learning theory with consensus from robotic sensor networks . The research lab includes diverse disciplines including computational mechanics , dynamical systems theory , estimation , approximation , robotics , and control theory . Over the years the lab has carried out a flourishing externally funded research program supported by the National Science Foundation , NASA Langley Research Center , NASA Dryden Flight Research Center , Eglin Air Force Base , the Air Force Office of Scientific Research ( AFOSR ), the Naval Research Laboratory ( NRL ), the Office of Naval Research ( ONR ), the Army Research Office ( ARO ), and the Air Force Research Laboratory ( AFRL ).
