ONLINE DEGREES
This year , Mechanical Engineering expanded the online offerings for students pursuing a master ’ s degree . This initiative is bound to the Virginia Tech land-grant identity , building a stronger workforce within the commonwealth . This led the department to extend two new opportunities :
Master of Engineering in Nuclear Engineering
This degree path requires 24 or 27 credits of courses plus 6 or 3 credits of project and report . The program addresses a growing but previously underserved industry demand within the Commonwealth of Virginia . Opportunities for careers include the energy , security , medical , and policy sectores .
MS non-thesis in Mechanical Engineering
This degree path requires 30 hours , comprised of 24 credits of technical coursework ( 24 credits of technical coursework and 6 credits of project / report work ). The need for mechanical engineers with master ’ s-level training continues to rise with advances in technology , and this degree path will equip students for jobs in robotics and autonomy , energy , manufacturing , and design .
