TY Highlights
By TYs Meadhbh Ni Ghaboid & Lauren Donohoe
In yet another mad year of lockdowns and restrictions TYs still managed to keep themselves busy .
In September TY students headed off to Meath to Causey Farm . While they were there , they had great fun making homemade bread and chasing baby piglets and goats around the petting zoo before hoping into a rickety old trailer and heading down to the bog . After only being down there for 30 minutes they , all came out drenched from head to toe in Meaths finest bog .
They have also been kept busy with tons of different courses to do while in school .
They had a visit from the National Reptile in November . They got to meet plenty of different animals during the visit like Rafeek the python and speedy the tortoise . The students were taught all sorts of facts about the animals and faced their fears by petting and holding them . Another firm favorite was the food schools course in December . During the day students learned how to properly set a table , take orders , and carry three plates and a drinks tray , all skills that are so useful to have for their work experience . At the end they had to design a restraunt and menu of their own and put it into action . they all had roles to play such as the restraunt manager , waiters chef and customers . All the students said it was great fun and had a good laugh .
In November the students had a visit from an ex-army paramedic during the full day course the TYs learned how to perform CPR , use a D-Fib , bandage all sorts of wounds , what to do when someone is chocking and much more . At the end of the course the students received a certificate that lasts for 2 years to say that they know how to perform these procedures in an emergency . All the students thought it was really important that everyone knows how to perform the procedures that they learned in their First Aid course .
