EAL : Meet Our Chinese Teacher
Ms Hongfei Wang came to Ireland in 2013 , taught Chinese in schools and enterprises and worked in two Irish universities . She is a registered EFL teacher in China , has a BA in English , MA in TCFL and is a PhD candidate in Applied Linguistics at TCD . Before joining here , she was teaching Chinese language modules of the MPhil in Chinese Studies at Trinity Centre for Asian Studies . Hongfei currently teaches the Chinese module for Transition Year students . It aims to allow students to experience a new language with both modern and historical culture of Chinese and provide insights for any interested students towards developing it into a new Leaving Certificate subject . Students will acquire a basic idea of the language through courses , projects and workshops in topics such as family culture and society , different cuisine , tradition and modern festivals , sports and leisure activities , fashion and art etc . EAL : Meet Our Russian Teacher
Lana Ilyin has been teaching Russian in Ireland since 2006 . She got her primary degree in language teaching in Ukraine and her master ’ s degree in education in Trinity College Dublin .
She works for the Post-Primary Languages Ireland in eight schools delivering Transition Year and Leaving Certificate Russian to hundreds of students each year . TY Russian students are introduced to some conversational Russian , the Russian alphabet , and different aspects of Russian culture . They also prepare a project on a chosen topic related to Russia or any Russian-speaking country and present it in class , as part of the requirements for the module .
Lana has excelled in teaching LC Russian , and the majority of her students get excellent results in their Higher level Russian examination . As part of her job Lana has developed materials for the post-primary students and has also produced a Junior Cycle short course draft in Russian . For several years Lana chaired the Association of Teachers of Russian organising teacher training workshops and seminars and participated in various projects aimed at promoting the use of modern foreign languages . She also designs and teaches courses varying from beginners to advanced for adult learners of Russian in Sandford Language Institute .
Apart from teaching Russian Lana also teaches English for speakers of other languages in one of City of Dublin Education and Training Board centres . She has TEFL qualification and has previously worked in MLI International School in Dublin , initially as an English teacher and later as an Assistant Director of Studies .
Russian classes are now up and running for our 5th & 6th Year students preparing for LC Russian exam 2021 / 2022 . Thursdays 4.00 - 5.30pm Fridays 12.30 - 2.00pm .
