Junior Hurlers B Grade Roundup
Our u16s have bullishly gone about
business in the B grade for the second
year running, bulldozing their way to
another final. The boys ran roughshod
over Templeogue College and St.
MacDara’s in the group stages, with a
knack for goalscoring crowning our
performances.
‘Big
Mac’,
Jack
Murnane and Luke Jennings provided
scoring punch in the early rounds,
while Rory Byrden did his best
Dwayne Johnson impression at full
back, proving himself to be a rock at
the heart of our defence.
St. Colmcilles visited Maynooth GAA
for our Quarter Final and were
certainly a stiffer test. Cian O’ Neill and
Darragh Power proved to be the
catalysts for a strong first half
performance, which allowed us to
take a comfortable cushion into half
time. Some trojan work from Davy
Eustace and Billy Coonan at the back
kept us in the ascendancy as
Colmcilles
threw
everything,
including the kitchen sink at us, in the
second half. I’m fairly sure that’s
against the rules but the ref was
having none of it. We held on in the
driving wind and rain to book
ourselves another semi final date with
Castleknock CC.
Castleknock were hellbent on revenge
having been put to the sword twice in
Fortress Moyglare last season, but
they ran into a team reluctant to
relinquish the 16s crown, just yet.
With Conor Whyte and Ciarán
Flanagan driving forward from the
middle of the field and James ‘The
Wizard’ Dolan popping up with a
hattrick inside, we were not to be
denied a victory in atrocious
conditions.
Despite the pools of water, MEC could not be
bogged down and turned in a workmanlike
performance which leaves us with our eyes firmly
on retaining our prize.
The lads will also be looking forward to a final
after Christmas, having gone undefeated in Dublin
competition over the past 3 seasons, at u16.
Exciting times lie ahead for our fantastic group of
young hurlers. Let’s hope we’re welcoming two
cups back to the campus in the new year.
