Chanukah in November? So says the calendar in 5774. This past Saturday night, MDS hosted its annual Chanukah Boutique to give families a chance to shop for gifts before the holiday commenced.
Fifty vendors turned up to sell their wares—from boutique veterans to exciting newcomers. Customers picked up beautiful jewelry, artwork, tablecloths, serving platters, hair accessories, Judaica, and some of their favorite kosher wines.
Amidst the shopping frenzy, there were also plenty of other ways to celebrate. Kids enjoyed activities from VIP Entertainment including basketball and hockey games, video games and a green screen photo booth. Shoppers who worked up an appetite enjoyed delicious pizza and calzones from Café Roma and delectable cupcakes from Cake My Breath Away.
In addition to scoring big on Chanukah gifts, guests were invited to partake in two
raffles. The sponsor-only raffle—featuring prizes from Park East Kosher, EIGHTEEN Restaurant, Slate NYC home cleaning, Advantage Tennis Clubs, West Side Judaica and the LSS Jewish Music and Cantorial Concert—was won by George and Denise Karasick. The grand prize raffle—a three-night stay at the Ritz Carlton Cancun with airfare for two, courtesy of RAM Destinations Spring 2014 Passover Program, was won by Robert and Tamar Rosenthal.
MDS families really rallied together to sponsor the event. We raised more money than we have in years past. Thank you to the many parents and faculty who sponsored the even. The funds will go to Parents Council events and activities that your children will benefit from.
In addition, thank you to the many volunteers, both parents and students, whose efforts ensured the evening ran smoothly. Happy Thanksgivukkah to all!
