What can be better than cooking? How about cooking while doing a mitzvah? Masbia is a UJA-funded program, a restaurant-style soup kitchen. Masbia's purpose is to provide hungry people with delicious food in a restaurant format to build their spirits. On my latest visit on Lag B'omer, everyone got a chance to cook and serve fresh food to sad, homeless Jews and non-Jews. In addition to serving fresh food, Masbia also provides non-perishable food packages. Masbia has three locations, two in Brooklyn and one in Queens. With only one kitchen, Masbia serves 500 meals a day in all its locations. From peeling carrots to cutting pickles to serving food, Masbia is a fun-filled way to do a mitzvah. I think it's an amazing experience and I hope everyone can get a chance to volunteer.

Thank you for joining us for the UJA-Federation Tov B'Yachad Lag Ba’Omer volunteer project at Masbia! It was a pleasure to join with you and your children to serve dinner to needy members of our community.

A special thanks to Amanda Nussbaum for chairing this special project.

UJA-Federation believes in the power of kehillah because we do so much good when we do it together. Together, we’re helping the neediest members of our community, easing the burdens of aging Holocaust survivors, helping families in crisis, supporting Jewish education, and so much more.

We look forward to sharing updates about future volunteer projects, and we welcome your continued involvement!
