“Mannahatta,” starring the MDS Fourth Graders, was performed in front of a packed audience last Friday, May 23rd. Family members from as far away as Argentina, Israel and Florida flew in to see the performance. New York’s history was portrayed through well-known songs, rewritten with relevant lyrics. Each actor knew his/her speaking part and fluently memorized all of the songs.
Immigration into New York was a central theme in the play and a moving PowerPoint presentation highlighted each family’s country of origin. All of the pictures can be viewed in a beautiful ancestry display in the MDS Lower Lobby. The choreography drew particular attention and delight. The boys' dance to accompany Newsies has already become legendary! Everyone present had a wonderful, educational, emotional and entertaining morning!
Special thanks to Mrs. Karen Daitchman, Mrs. Miryam Alter, Mrs. Stephanie Bronstein, Richard Acosta and Elisha Hus, Julio Garcia and his team, and Mrs. Melzer.
