First graders recently wrapped up an exciting month-long study of Folktales and Fairytales. 1A and 1C spent time identifying and defining the characteristics of these types of stories. Some key features of this genre include; magic, trickery, emphasis on the number 3, good and bad characters, as well as an important message or lesson that can be learned. First graders enjoyed reading various versions of classic tales like Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
Though our folktale and fairytale study has come to a culmination, it has left a lasting mark on the students of the first grade. So much so, that many have taken the opportunity to write and illustrate their own stories outside of the classroom. This week Kira Rosin and Scarlett Sohn (1A) were generous enough to share some of the short fairytale stories and illustrations they crafted over the weekend. Both 1A and 1C loved hearing them and were impressed with amount of dedication and hard work Kira and Scarlett put forth.
Many classmates have now been inspired to create stories of their own! “I want to buy
a journal with a super hero cover, so I can write my own super hero story and share it with the class! “ Hunter London excitedly
declared today. Our first grade authors cannot wait to showcase many more creative tales in upcoming releases of
The Messenger! Stay tuned!
