MDS Messenger Volume 13, Issue 15

Thursday was a happening day for grades 4-8 at MDS. Yehuda Katz, noted singer and producer of the song, Ani Yehudi, visited our students and learned and sang with them. He was extremely impressed with the students’’ understanding of the song and their ability to personalize the themes of achdut, tolerance and sensitivity for all Jews. Each student in grades 6-8 rewrote the song according to his/her own life, experiences and ideals. Yehuda was thrilled to sing some of the revised lyrics written by the students. In addition, the songs were affixed to masks that were uniquely decorated with different styles and approaches. Thank you to the Lashon and Art departments that helped integrate the idea of Jewish tolerance and achdut across the curriculum. In grades 4 &5, the students wrote their own paragraphs and couplets to describe Ani Yehudi. They decorated the figures that resembled their concept of “I am a Jew.” Thank you to the 4th Yehuda Katz is a real talent.
