Mid-County welcomes John Clark , the new service manager at the Auto , Truck & Tire Center

John Clark has been with Mid-County since last June when he was hired to be the new automotive department service manager . Prior to coming on board with our co-op , John worked in retail tire operations for the Bridgestone Corporation .
John ’ s responsibility as service manager includes caring for vehicles that cross a wide range of size and utilization .
“ Our job is to make sure that customer vehicle issues are rectified so they meet the owner ’ s needs , whether it ’ s a sedan taking someone to and from work , a tractor tire replacement , or a transmission problem on a semi needed to haul crops out of the field ,” John said .
John grew up in Bloomington and graduated from Kennedy High School . During his formative years , John ’ s family taught him to treat others as he would like to be treated . But when it comes to customer service , he sees that as a less than empathetic approach .
“ The way I want to be treated may not be the same way someone else wants to be treated . Mid-County ’ s customer service philosophy is rooted in the platinum rule of treating people the way they want to be treated . The challenge is to communicate in a way that reveals how customers see our role ,” he said .
John takes that approach very seriously with the automotive division ’ s other employees too because it promotes positivity in the workplace . He feels that high morale and a cohesive shop is key to growing the business . John said their long-term goal is to add customer count , but he offered a caveat .
“ We have to face first things first . We ’ re having the same difficulty in hiring staff that seems to plague everyone else . Our chore is to find the right people who will do the right job . We have to be extremely sensitive to not take on too much work , so that we can stay respectful of our customers ’ time and get their vehicles back to them when we promise .”
He concluded by saying , “ The message that I would like to convey is that it ’ s in our fiber at Mid-County to provide the best service possible for each and every customer . We believe the best way to treat customers is to take care of their problem the first time .”
John currently lives in Green Isle with his wife , Lindsey , and their five kids . They have two boys and three girls who range in age from 20 down to 11 . In his spare time , John loves to ride his 2022 Harley-Davidson Road Glide .
“ Nothing makes me happier than having a breeze on my knees ,” he said in a noticeably animated voice .
Lindsey enjoys riding too , and they have taken motorcycle riding trips in places like Arizona , California , and Spain . John ’ s second favorite pastime is travel , so the trips are a perfect combination .
It seems to be a whole-family affair . “ The kids like riding too . My youngest has been on two wheels since he was seven ,” John said .
