Bryan Fosmire: Engineering Intern

Solid Form Fabrication

According to Bryan Fosmire, Solid Form Fabrication’s Project Engineer Intern, the most surprising thing about working for the company is the size: "It’s a very small fabrication company that does very big jobs." The amount of impact Solid Form has on the community is large as well. One of Solid Form's owners, Deven Paolo works with local schools to teach hands-on skills that can lead to careers outside of high school through classes like metal shop.

At Solid Form, Bryan works as a project engineer drafting projects, designing mechanical components, and creating quotes for customers while listening to rock music. The internship has given him the ability to work on multiple projects. He points to a set of stairs he helped design as his favorite job thus far, stating the amount of regulations that need to be met keep the design work interesting.

"You have to really be thinking about all aspects and all angles."

Bryan is no stranger to design. Coming into George Fox University where he currently studies mechanical engineering, Bryan originally planned to be an art major. Creating plans for components of fabrications still allows him to be creative with a more analytical approach. "We try to be critical each step of the way because you have to anticipate each different aspect of the project. If you build something without taking into account one part of it, that might turn out to ruin the whole project. You have to really be thinking about all aspects and all angles."

The experience he could gain originally attracted him to the position, because "some things have a really cool design but aren’t actually possible to make, and that’s not really helpful." Working with welding and sheet molding gives him a new skill set to use in the future, but Bryan isn't anxious to move on anytime soon, "I’d be happy working here for a while."
