Vaseem Khan Biography/Background: Vaseem Khan was appointed Vice President of Engineering in August 2015, where he is responsible for McDermott’s seven engineering offices, along with the Epsom based Centre for Innovation and Research. Based in McDermott’s corporate headquarters in Houston, Vaseem has almost 30 years’ experience in the energy industry. London and his son is in college. He loves cars and someday when he retires he wants to buy a vintage Carman Gia and an E-type Jaguar and then renovate them. Born in South London in December 1962, Vaseem has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and a post graduate diploma in international management. A space man (though Major Tom’s fate did out me off ever so slightly) Prior to joining McDermott, Vaseem spent fifteen years at Technip, and in late 2012, was nominated as the Senior Vice President of the Middle East Region. In January 2013, he took over as the Regional Chief Executive responsible for the Group’s activities in the Middle East. He has previously worked with the British chemical conglomerate ICI plc (now part of Azko Nobel) as Corporate Projects Manager where he managed or supervised projects related to power generation, PTA, polyester and specialty chemicals in North America, South Asia and the Middle East. Vaseem also has engineering and project experience in the fertilizer and basic chemicals. Vaseem is married with two adult children who reside in the U.K. His daughter is a trainee solicitor in Vaseem answers a few additional questions below about himself: When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Last book you read? I typically read three books at a go (depending on my mood and the duration of the flight). Right now I am reading: “The Sellout” by Paul Beatty (fiction) “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” by Yuval Noah Harari (nonfiction) “Beyond Reason” by Roger Fisher and Daniel Shapiro (business) Last movie you saw? Last movie you saw in a movie theater? “Ghost in the Shell” I am an avid Sci-Fi fan and also watched “Arrival” earlier in the year. The best movie I have seen this year is “Hidden Figures” a great example of how engineering prowess and mathematical abilities can often be found in places where we do not normally look. Favorite band? A bit embarrassed to admit this but Guns and Roses is up there along with T-Rex and Eric Clapton. Guns and Roses’
