04.1 / POINTS OF DUE DILIGENCE staff 1: Decide who will manage and implement H&S duties Clear lines of responsibility are required for the management of H&S in the workplace. The overall owner or MD may not, on their own be enough so a support team can be appointed. However, these staff must be competent and qualified to undertake the duties properly on behalf of the employer. Describe how H&S will be managed in the business and explain to staff and other relevant parties about your commitment to H&S. The policy must state clearly who does what, when and how. 3: Manage the Risks in the Business Consider the potential risks in your business and how you will minimize and control them. Record these items and the actions taken within a regularly up-dated Risk Assessment. 4: Consult Employees ​ handbook BASIC PRINCIPLES OF HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT 2: Write an H&S policy and statement for the business Over and above our obligations under the various H&S acts and laws in force at the time of writing and reviewing this document (see appendices), we wish to highlight the following points for our staff and readers. safety All employees must be consulted on H&S at work. Basic items include hand-washing facilties, drinking water, clothes storage and a place to rest and eat meals. 7: Display the Health and Safety Law Poster Or give each member of staff a copy of the pocket book H&S Law Poster & Guides 8: Ensure you have adequate Employers Liability Insurance Cover If an employee has an accident or becomes ill dues to circumstances at work, they may be able to claim compensation from you.
