We need one another. We must therefore develop a sense of universal responsibility… It is our collective and individual responsibility to protect and nurture the global family, to support its weaker members, and to preserve and tend to the environment in which we all live.” the Dalai Lama 22-23 This edition of MBIS Buzz captures our most memorable annual event– International Week. There are 50 nationalities represented at MBIS and International Week is a time for us all to fully celebrate the rich cultural diversity that makes our school so special. Throughout the week, the children were involved in a wide range of learning activities designed to develop their understanding and appreciation of different nationalities, different cultures, different ways of life. Through research, drama, music, food, art, design technology and costume, all the year groups enjoyed finding out more about the world around them in fun and meaningful ways. The week culminated with our traditional International Family Fun Day: an opportunity for families to meet, relax and enjoy food, drink, music and dance from around the world. It was a wonderful event. Current thinking among educators and many governments is that the most important qualitychildren will need in the future is ‘international-mindedness’: a mind-set that is fullyopen to interacting successfully within the global community. Richard White Head Teacher MBIS International mindedness is something in which our school excels. MBIS offers a British style education adapted for an international student body – a learning journey designed to cultivate the whole child, geared to engender the attitudes and attributes for life-long learning. MBIS is a school where every child and their family add a unique and valued dimension to the collective international character of the place. MBIS is a school supported by a genuine family atmosphere and a caring ethos, without boundaries. There can be little doubt that the children of MBIS acquire a deep international perspective and a set of empathic interpersonal skills that will serve them very well in their futures. The unique spirit and character of MBIS are always tangible. During International Week, these qualities truly shine.
