ow Sunday 2nd February 10 L.E d it N Rea Family Yummy Day at the Family Fun Day Visit to Thailand (1HW) By Cecilia Fatti Two weeks ago was International Week, every class in the school represented a different country. This year Upper School represented South America. We had a lot of classes coming to visit us and we had prepared many fun activities for other children to do. Additionally, we not only hosted, but also visited! Year 7 was split in two groups, one going to 1HW which was representing Thailand, and the other one going to 1HM which was representing Namibia. I was in the group going to 1HW. As me and my and the rest of my group entered the class room, we saw that every bit of it was covered in beautiful decorations, pictures of Thailand and festivals celebrated there, all full of colour and life. Firstly we sat down and the Year 1 children taught us how to say a few easy words in Thai, including Sa-wat-dee-kha which means hello, kun chêw a-rai which means what’s your name and pom chew which means my name is. This first activity was very fun and intriguing. Then, Ms. Wells showed us a video of a special festival celebrated in Thailand, the elephant festival. Elephants are the national animal of Thailand, in this festival, they are beautifully decorated with stunning designs and patterns all over their body, they then get brought around the town as the whole village celebrates. The elephants are not just beautiful, but also very skilled! On the video we watched, they had been trained to play football, basketball, polo, tug of war and many other interesting things. It was amazing seeing them do so many things and doing them so well! After watching the video, Year 7 were split up on the two tables each with a few Year 1 children. The teachers then handed out some already cut elephant shaped pieces of card which we had to help the Year one children decorate! Laid out on the table were plastic gems and sequins of all shapes and sizes, There were also many different coloured glitters. The children did a very good job in sticking on the sequins and I was amazed at how neat their work was! It was fun helping them decorate their elephants! I had lots of fun doing this with Year 1 and would be happy repeating the experience all over again! The children worked really well and I’m sure everybody had fun.
