According to the Ambassador, it is essential that Israeli diplomats bring clarity about why there must be one Jewish State in the world. “After what happened, it is so important to have people understand our history and the tragic history of the Second World War. We are also looking for the stories of the righteous among the nations; those who saved Jews during WWII.”
At that time, the Bulgarian regime rounded up and deported more than 11,000 Jews in March 1943 from territories it annexed. More than 7100 Jews from Macedonia were transported in cattle cars to Treblinka death camp. This represented the destruction of 96-97% of the total Macedonian Jewish population.
