What could the building of a small embassy, hospital and other vital infrastructure 200 years ago in a country slightly bigger than the state of New Jersey have on life today?
For the organization, CMJ – Church’s Ministry among the Jewish People, the decision by the British government slightly over 200 years ago contributed to the groundwork for the future establishment of the state of Israel.
CMJ’s mission started in 1809, with William Wilberforce as one of its chief founders. Wilberforce is most notable for being an English politician, philanthropist and a leader of the movement to abolish the slave trade. He participated in founding the London Society for Promoting Christianity amongst the Jews.
Rev Aaron Eime of CMJ Israel recounted the history of the organization's origins.
"The Christian world was transformed by the invention of the Printing Press. The first book produced was the Bible and the availability of the Scriptures motivated entire communities. The Christian world read the Bible literally and rediscovered Gods passion, love and future for the Jewish People. Jesus was not coming back to Paris or to London, as nice as those cities might be. The Messiah was returning to Jerusalem. "
