3 DISTRICT
Each year , it allows us to get into the community to meet and educate our children .”
The Scranton District Dental Society ( SDDS ) celebrated the return of their annual packed schedule of NCDHM events this February . Many members of the dental society visited area schools and day care centers , educating about the importance of good dental hygiene in fun , entertaining ways . The society donated over 5,000 dental bags that were filled with coupons , toothbrushes , coloring pages and more .
The SDDS once again partnered with three Mueller Family McDonald ’ s restaurants to host special events featuring the Tooth Fairy and Poppy Troll . Parents and children enjoyed complimentary photos with the characters , arts and crafts , and a dental hygiene bag that included a coupon for free fries at the restaurant .
The society also continued their tradition of partnering with the Lackawanna County Children ’ s Library to educate their youngest members and their caregivers on the importance of dental health . Their Tooth Fairy , Linda Gjonaj , a pre-dental student in the Masters program at the University of Scranton , read stories about good dental hygiene , took photos and played with the children , assisted with their tooth art project , and gave each child a free dental hygiene bag .
To wrap up NCDHM , Third District Dental Society president Dr . Thomas Langan appeared on several radio stations in the greater Scranton area on the “ Community Forum ” program to discuss the importance of children ’ s dental health , including developing healthy habits early .
“ This is our society ’ s favorite event !” said Dr . Thomas Langan Jr ., NCDHM chair . “ Each year , it allows us to get into the community to meet and educate our children . Our goal is to make dental health fun and easy and to show kids that going to the dentist can be a really great experience .”
